Fear vs. Faith

Do you want inner peace in your life? Do you want stability in your mind and orientation to life? As a believer in Jesus Christ you have everything you need to obtain these things.

The Bible has much to say about how a Christian should live his life. Yet many Christians come to Jesus Christ for salvation and then totally ignore everything the Bible says about the Christian way of life. As a result when things go wrong or there is a tragedy in their life they fall apart and become fearful of the future. Fear can become so intense in a persons life that it can affect him physically and even lead to depression and mental illness.

By ignoring the teaching of the Bible Christians open themselves up to Satan’s lies. Without the Word of God occupying ones mind there will be a void. Satan will fill that void with lies. You may say “Oh well, I know the truth from a lie? Do you? Keep in mind that Satan has dominion of this world. He runs it. Satan controls the world systems. Satan is the highest and most intelligent creature that God has ever created. He is far more knowledgeable and crafty than any man and he has one third of the angels (demons) working for him. Satan has rebelled against God and has been condemned by God and sentenced to the Lake of Fire. It is his intention to fill Christians with lies, deceit, fear and doubt about God. He wants to destroy your witness and your life. When Jesus was on earth Satan went after him and failed. Now that Jesus is in Heaven he goes after Christ’s representatives on earth. Frankly, if you are a Christian and you ignore Gods word you don’t have a chance in Hell of living a life which is pleasing to God. Satan absolutely hates Christians and that is very evident in many of his followers. Satan’s hate and lies are reflected in his followers and God’s love and forgiveness is reflected in his followers.

It is Satan’s goal to achieve a one world government and a one world religion. By controlling these he will attempt to totally wipe out Christianity by force.

Only consistent study of God’s word and obedience to God’s will can combat and defeat Satan in the mind of a Christian. Satan works tirelessly to prevent you from telling others about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Many Christians do not study the Bible and only get their information about God from some “religious” leader. Religion will always teach a distorted view of the Gospel. Religion always teaches that we must do some form of good works to obtain salvation. Christianity teaches that Jesus did the work of salvation and that to obtain that salvation we must acknowledge Him as the Son of God and put our faith in him. Religion and Christianity are directly opposed to one another and they cannot be mixed because one cancels the other. Works cancels faith and faith cancels works.

“Now to him (the religious man) that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him (Christ) that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Romans 4:4-5 When we, as believers, fail to study and learn the Word of God Satan will be able to use our ignorance against us. As a result we will become disoriented in life and afraid of many things. Some people may even become psychotic over time. If this happens Satan has won because he has destroyed your witness as a believer. An unbeliever should be afraid because he is facing an eternity of suffering because his arrogance has prevented him from having a simple faith in Jesus Christ.

Fear is the absents of faith.

We should not confuse the word “fear” in the King James Version of the Bible when it is used as “trust” as in 1 Samuel 12:24 “Only fear (trust) the Lord, and serve him with truth with all your heart; for consider how great things he hath done for you.”

We are instructed to not be afraid of our circumstances in life. There will be a time of testing in every believers life. You will be placed in a situation to which there is no way out. Your faith will be tested. Read Job Chapters 1 and 2. Job is the classic example of Christian suffering. If a believer is not prepared for such testing he will become extremely afraid. If a believer is prepared, although he is suffering, he will remain oriented. He will understand what is going on around him and be able to counter the fiery darts of Satan by using his understanding of Gods promises and mixing it with his faith.

Don’t believe those who tell you that when you become a believer you will have no more problems. This is the time when Satan goes to work on you. In order to please God and live a victorious Christian life we must study Gods word and apply it to our lives.

“Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15

We trust God for the big thing, salvation, but yet we ignore him for the small things during our lifetime. We should not have fear because God provides everything we need.

“He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things.” Romans 8:32.

When the testing comes down on you and you have no place to turn what will you do?
Will you cry and fall apart? Will you became depressed and disillusioned or will you turn over your problems to God and rest on the promises?

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober be vigilant, because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking whom he may devour” 1 Peter 5:7&8.

There are many illustrations of faith recorded in the Bible:

The shepherd boy David said to the giant Goliath “This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand; I will smite thee; and take thy head from thee; and I will give the carcasses of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowl of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel and all this assembly shall know that the Lord saveth not with the sword and the spear: for the battle is the Lords, and he will give you into our hands”

Normally, one would think that a person would be afraid of a 9 1/2 foot giant who had a huge spear and a sword but David believed the Lord and demonstrated his faith for everyone to see.

We may not have to face giants but we will surely face impossible situations during our lifetime. Jesus said “With men this is impossible but with God all things are possible. Matthew 19:26.

One of the most outstanding statements of faith came from Job. Job was a mature believer who trusted the Lord and walked with him daily. In fact, God and Satan had a conversation about Job. “And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect (mature believer) and an upright man, one that feareth (trusts) God and escheweth (hates) evil?

God then allowed Satan to test Job. Satan took the lives of his seven sons and his three daughters, his great wealth, his home and eventually his health. Job was as miserable as a man could be but yet never cursed God. Job sat alone in the ashes of what use to be his house, his body covered with some type of painful skin cancers. He had lost everything. Satan had done everything that he could do to a human being to break his faith in God. Even Jobs wife told him to curse God and die but Job never lost his integrity before the Lord. He never cursed God with his lips. As he scraped himself with a piece of broken pottery he made one of the most amazing statements of faith in history.

“Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him, but I will maintain my own ways before him…For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh I shall see God: Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me” Job 13:15, 19: 25-27.

What will you do when a disaster strikes in your life? Will you trust the Lord? Do you really believe in him? Put him to the test. Cast your burdens upon the Lord. Pray and wait upon the Lord.

“For the Lord your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you. Deut. 20:4

“Fear thou not, for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee, yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness” Isa. 41:10
“When I am afraid, I will put my trust in thee” Ps. 56:3

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”

Never stop trusting the Lord. No matter what happens, no matter how bad things seem to be, no matter how hopeless the situation is because your period of testing will end and you will be rewarded for your faith. Job was given more of everything than he had before. His health and wealth was restored. He had another seven sons and three daughters.

“And in the land there were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job: and their father gave them inheritance among the brethren. And after this Job lived one hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons’sons even four generations. So, Job died being old and full of days.” Job 42:15-17.

We are tested to make us grow in spiritual maturity. This is important to God. David said “It is good for me that I have been afflicted that I might learn thy statutes…I know O Lord, that thy judgments are right, and that thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me.” Ps. 119:71& 75.

We are in a tremendous battle between good and evil being waged here on earth. We live in the enemy’s territory and faith in the one true God is our only defense against the evil one.
