“Call to Me and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not” (Jer. 33:3.)

The first prayer that God will hear is when a person accepts Jesus Christ as his savior. Other than that he will not hear prayers from any unbeliever. All prayers must be addressed to God the Father (Matt. 6:9), in the name of Jesus Christ (John 14:13-14), in the power of the Holy Spirit. (Eph. 6:18).

The Bible gives us reasons why prayers are not answered by God. One main reason is that the believer is carnal which means he has unconfessed sin in his life. Eph 6:18 tells us that we must pray “in the Spirit”. The only way to be in the Spirit is to confess our sins (1 Jn. 1:9) and be forgiven of our sins.

“If I regard (allow) iniquity (sin) in my heart the Lord will not hear me.” (Psm 66:18) In order to get rid of sin we must confess it to God the Father. “If we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 Jn 1:9).

Other reasons that our prayers are not answered include a lack of faith. “And all things whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive,” (Matt 21:22) asking for something out of lust. “Ye ask and receive not because ye ask amiss that you may consume it upon your lusts” (James 4:3). We might ask for something not in compliance with the known will of God. “And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us… (1 John 5:14) Lack of compassion for others “Whosoever stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he shall also cry himself but not be heard. (Proverbs 21:13). Lack of domestic tranquility “Likewise ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honor unto thy wife, as unto the weaker vessel and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers be not hindered. (1 Peter 3:7)

Your prayer is just as important to God as any believer’s prayer. God is not a respecter of persons. A person’s position in life means nothing to God. The so-called Holy Father (who is neither Holy nor our Father) has no more pull with God than you do perhaps not as much. Perhaps none because he either confesses his sins to another sinner which is not scriptural or believes he has no sin at all.

We do not pray to another person such as Peter or Mary. Matthew tells us to go into our room and close the door and in private pray to The Father which is in secret, and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. (Matt 6:6)

Do not pray to be seen as a great person. “And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues (churches) and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men” (Matt 6:5)Do not waste you time speaking in repetitions. In other words do not pray a prayer which someone else wrote and repeat it over and over. You will never be heard. It is an affront to God. God does not want to hear “Hail Mary full of grace mother of God” over and over. Why? Because we do not pray to people only God the Father. Mary is in no way the Mother of God and Mary has no Grace. Only God has the power to bestow Grace on the human race. Plus, we do not pray in repetitions. God refers to people who do as heathens. (unsaved people).

“But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking” (Matt 6:7).

God wants us to pray from our own soul directly to God the Father. However, God has guidelines to go by in order for our prayers to be heard. We must know what he has to say about prayer. You cannot live your life in ignorance of Gods word and expect him to answer your prayers upon demand.

Many religions today do not even study the Bible. The will study their own religion (mans own system of good works to impress God). This includes a number of Christian denominations. Other denominations are in the process of letting legalism and works take over the teaching of the true Gospel. Some are so far along that homosexuals are being accepted as pastors. In such churches you will not find the truth taught. You will only find hypocrisy and a disregard for the true word of God.

This is why God says “If you abide in me (if you are a believer in Jesus Christ) and my words abide in you (if you know Gods word) ask whatever you wish, and it shall be done for you.” (John 15:7).

If your prayers are not being answered you might want to examine your own life to see what the problem is. God has a definite system for us to use so that our prayers can be heard. We must want to know God enough to study his word before he will reveal himself to us or answer our prayers.

The unbeliever will never understand prayer or anything spiritual for that matter because his human spirit is dead. We are all born physically alive but spiritually dead. The human spirit must be made alive by accepting Jesus Christ by faith.

“But the natural man (unbeliever) receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness unto him; neither can he know them because they are spiritually discerned. (1 Cor 2:14).

The thief on the cross which hung beside Jesus said a prayer. “And he said unto Jesus, Lord remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. He had believed that Jesus was the Son of God prior to his prayer and expressed it through his prayer. His prayer was answered. And Jesus said unto him, Truly I say unto thee, Today thou shalt be with me in Paradise.

The thief was nailed to a cross. He was not able to do any good works nor had he lived a life pleasing to God. He was a criminal. He could not clean up his life, give up his sinful ways, go to church or anything else. He was nailed to a cross and dying. He simply believed that Jesus was the Son of God and expressed it in his prayer.

On the other side of Jesus hung an unbeliever. The three crosses represent the human race, believers, unbelievers and the Savior in the middle offering eternal life to anyone who would accept him.

Why have we made something so simple into an impossible task in our churches? Satan has invaded our churches and spread his own false teachings which is basically “It’s not about Christ it’s all about you. You have to do all of these things to get to heaven.”

If you were to follow the teachings of almost any legalistic (salvation by works) religion you would be consumed by it. You would soon see that there is no hope of obtaining the perfection and righteousness of God on your own. You would find that you cannot stop sin nor do anything about your past sins. You would find out that you do not have the power to forgive your own sins and ultimately you would either just give up or realize that Jesus Christ is truly the Savior.

“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Heb 4:16)

If you are not a believer in Jesus Christ the issue for you is “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved.” (Acts 16:31) God will hear your expression of faith and give to you life eternal and your human spirit will be made alive so that you can understand the spiritual things of God.

Prayer is your communication with God. Use it.
